Self portrait homage to Albrecht Durer and Hilma af Klint
Durer was a Neo-Platonist and af Klint was a mystic, spiritualist and visionary. These two artists lived prior to and after the so-called Age of Enlightenment, to which the philosophies and worldviews of both stood in contrast. The ideological biases of the Enlightenment resulted in the separation of hard science and metaphysics, a long term setback to humanity rather than advancement in my opinion.
As Above, So Below is currently on view at the Monterey Museum of Art, 559 Pacific Street, Monterey, California, as part of the inaugural Monterey Biennial Exhibit, Resonance and Reflection. The exhibit featuring the work of one hundred twenty-two California Central Coast artists from Fresno, Kern, Kings, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo counties will run through August 31, 2025.
