"Boomers of Monterey" Portrait Project Is Back Thanks to Arts Council for Monterey County

For 2025 the Arts Council for Monterey County has once again awarded me a generous Individual Grant, enabling me to finally complete and exhibit the Boomers of Monterey County portrait project.

Beginning this month and over the next twelve-month period ahead I’ll interview and photograph members of a specific group of Monterey County residents, the prelude to painting their portraits and recording their thoughts and significant life events. Completing a dozen or more portraits and exhibiting them with excerpts of their biographies in a suitable venue will bring this project to a successful conclusion.

Qualified residents who volunteer for my project are those born between the years of 1946 and 1964 - in other words, Baby Boomers, the generation born in the immediate wake of World War II. Ideally, project participants will represent diverse ethnicities, cultural traditions, gender orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds. I intend these portraits, along with the excerpts from their biographical words will be the subject of a public art exhibition, most ideally by year’s end or early 2026.

The 2025 Arts Council grant enables me to apply a unique disrupted realist visual style to portraits of an aging demographic that represents nearly a quarter of the U.S. population – a demographic to which I also belong.

Please sign up for my Art of Dreams newsletter if you haven’t as yet done so to keep abreast of the project and upcoming exhibitions.
